Volunteer Applications for the Celebrate Mooroolbark Festival 2024 are now open!

The Celebrate Mooroolbark Festival thrives thanks to the incredible support of our local volunteers. Volunteering is more than helping out. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the festival.

What you need to know:
• Celebrate Mooroolbark welcomes young people to volunteer, however the minimum age to volunteer at the festival is 15 years.
• Valid WWCC is required.
• Generally we roster volunteers in 2 hour shifts across festival day (10am – 12pm, 12pm-2pm, 2pm-4pm), however we are open and grateful for any time investment.
• We will do our best to match you to a role which suits your area of interest.
• We will provide water, sunscreen and light refreshments on the day.

Volunteer Roles:
Site Team:
Work under the direction of our Site Coordinators to ensure the festival site looks perfect before attendees arrive; and return our Hookey Park to its usual glory when the festival concludes. Site is our largest team with volunteering opportunities as follows:
Friday 15th March: Volunteers with access to trailers or vans to collect equipment locally and deliver to site (e.g. tables and chairs).
Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th March: setting up marquees, signage, tables and chairs, traffic/parking barriers and picking up and distributing equipment.
Sunday set up: 7am-9am, pack down from 4pm.
Volunteers with trailers or vans to collect and drop equipment back to various local locations. Traffic Marshalling: Directing stallholders and classic car show entrants to their relevant sites.

Artist and Production Support:
Work closely with our Entertainment Team to keep things running smoothly for artists performing at the Hookey Park Rotunda, and roving artists at the festival. Tasks may include welcoming artists and registering their attendance, assisting to set up and manage the sound system and other ad hoc support for our Sound Engineers.

Yarra Valley Wool and Handicrafts Show: Operating from the Mooroolbark Community Centre Assisting the Wool Show Coordinator to collect gold coin donations at the entrance, general volunteers to assist with a fashion show and other ad hoc activities. Assistance needed to set up on Saturday 16th (afternoon) and pack down on Sunday 17th at the conclusion of the show (4pm) – including tables, chairs, and signage for exhibitors.


Occupational Health & Safety:
Making sure the festival is safe and hygienic for attendees. Tasks may include checking tables and eating areas are cleaned, rubbish collection and ensuring bins are emptied.


Activities and Competitions:
Helping run and supervise a variety of activities and competitions, including explaining basic directions relevant to the activity area and handing out prizes. Fun and engaging roles requiring interaction with festival goers of all ages. Some activities include money handling and/or use of a “tap and go” EFTPOS square and basic food handling (popcorn, fairy floss, show bags).


Active Living Hub:
Assisting the Active Living Hub Coordinator to set up, run and supervise lawn games for kids and teens. A great role to get you interacting with festival goers. May involve light physical activity,
standing and bending.
