It’s time for something new!
As you walk around this year, you’ll find yourself in groups of stalls of certain types or different interest groups – we’re calling them “hubs”. Here’s a little bit of information on each one and the site map below, so that you can begin to plan your day.
Jim’s TradeNet Local Business Hub
Here you’ll find a selection of Mooroolbark businesses from new services such as The Speech Tree to local produce like Benny’s Berries, unique shopping opportunities and delicious temptations from Manna Lane. You’ll also find Mooroolbark Traders and Community Group here, with the blender bikes being run by Ripple Kindness!
At the Jim’s TradeNet stall, you’ll find a program of demonstrations and talks throughout the day, including Manna Lane’s pickling and preserving demonstration at 11am and Jim Penman himself at 2pm. The full program will be published here next week.
Getting to know our local businesses better, especially those home or online based ones, helps to support our local economy, our local community and to reduce transportation of goods to our households. So get behind the businesses of these local people!
Food Hubs
Food and drinks will mostly be in two hubs, one nearest Brice Avenue and the other near the Youth Stage. This will make it easier for you to peruse the variety of cuisines and make your choices. Some tables and chairs will be provided nearby, but it’s a good idea to bring a picnic rug if you can!
Schools Hub
Mooroolbark’s local pre-schools, primary schools and secondary colleges hold stalls, many with free activities, items for sale to fundraise for their school and, of course, information about their school. This is a great chance for new parents to meet people from the local schools to see what’s on offer or for families to enjoy the free activities.
Community Hub
What’s happening in Mooroolbark? A lot! Volunteers get together frequently to make things happen. The Community Hub is the place to go to find out what they are doing, what changes they’d like to bring about in Mooroolbark and to support their endeavours. Often you’ll find free activities at these stalls as well.
Green Hub
It’s Easy Being Green! These stalls are there to teach us how. The Green Hub will be a mix of “green” community organisations, social enterprises and businesses. Some will hold sustainability talks/demonstrations on the day. We’l publish a program of those here shortly, otherwise look out for signs at their stalls on the day.
Active Living Hub
Are you thinking about joining a sports club, gym or fitness class? Perhaps Zumba? Or Tai Chi? Head down to the oval to see demonstrations from the variety of active living options in Mooroolbark and try them out. The 3rd program to be announced next week! It’s all very exciting.
Marketplace
As always, we have a huge marketplace of locally-made products so bring your shopping bags and stock up on gifts, pantry items, plants, you name it. There’ll also be a few trash-n-treasure stalls! (We love recycling…)
