Writing Competition

Writers, budding journalists and graphic artists, this competition is for you!!

(Prizes to be announced shortly.)

Entry is free.

Deadline for entries is 5pm Friday, March 15, 2019.

How can you explore our Dare to Dream theme this year?

This year we are focusing on local groups and individuals who contribute to the Mooroolbark community. We want to share the stories of the innovators and risk-takers who inspire us.

It could be a shop owner who is always welcoming and friendly, or a business that operates according to the principles of mutual profitability (concerned for both the wellbeing of the community and the environment). A volunteer organisation who is giving of themselves for the safety of our community or helping others achieve their goals. A child with a unique gift of sharing and consideration for others. A dedicated teacher or mentor who motivates you, or a caregiver who encourages and supports you.

Someone you admire or who you are proud to know. Those unsung heroes who may not have actually set out  to improve the lives of others, and might not even realise they are making a difference.

ANYONE WHO IS FOLLOWING THEIR DREAMS OR HELPING YOU TO FOLLOW YOURS!

We are interested to hear your interpretations of the theme. We know there are local people who aren’t afraid to reach for the sky, but is there a technology or invention that has changed your life for the better? An idea or special cause that you support and want to involve your fellow community members?

What inspires you? Who inspires you? We look forward to hearing your ideas!

How to enter?

There are no restrictions or word limit on your writing, interview or comic strip entries. When you have finished your piece, simply follow these instructions.

  1. Email your entry as an attachment to writing@celebratemooroolbark.com. If you have hand-written or drawn your entry, please scan it so that you can upload a digital copy. NOTE:
    • In the body of your email please state your name, phone number and title of your work.
    • Please do not include your own name on your entry attached to the email, so that you remain anonymous when judges make their decisions.
  2. Fill in the entry form below.

Winners will be announced from the main stage at Celebrate Mooroolbark on Saturday, 23 March, 2019. Timing of the announcement will be posted here and on our program page soon.
