Special Guest Don Elgin

Meet the man in person! We are so thrilled to announce our special guest for 2018 is Photo of Paralympian Don Elgin, to appear at Celebrate Mooroolbark 2018.Paralympian Don Elgin, who has truly overcome barriers in remarkable ways.

They don’t come any livelier than the boy from the bush that took on the world. Entertaining, motivational and all round larrikin he represented Australia at 4 World Championships and three Olympic Games over 14 years. A triple Paralympic medalist from Athens 2004, Team Manager for London 2012 and a career comeback to compete in the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Randall Bourchier interviewed Don for an article in the latest Living Today in Mooroolbark.

How did Don Elgin—a boy from Tocumwal, an amputee at three—go on to become a world champion athlete, and later manage the Australian team at the London Paralympic Games? “If I answer this, they might be onto me and they may have made a mistake, so maybe we’ll move to the second question!” Donnie joked.

Head on over to the Living Today edition online for the rest of the article and then come along to Celebrate Mooroolbark to hear Don at the main stage around 10.30am after the parade arrives. He’ll then be able to meet in person at the Mooroolbark Umbrella Group stall in the Community Hub.
